The Story
When a young, homeless boy upends her tightly controlled world, a waitress is forced to face her own traumatic past. A story about survivor’s guilt, and how the love that destroys us can also be the love that saves us.

Amendment is a short film that centers around a waitress, Rachael, who suffers from PTSD and who's done a pretty good job of cutting herself off from her past, as well as her present. As we follow Rachael, with her flashbacks and evident injuries, it's easy to assume that she's another casualty of recent conflict in the Middle East.
One day, Jack, a young, homeless boy, enters her closed-off world. He's whipsmart and kind, and really just wants a friend. Rachael isn't into making them. But, ultimately, he's the only one who could possibly understand.
Below the surface, Amendment is about how survivor’s guilt can rip apart the very life you were given a second chance at. How surviving gun violence results in far more than flesh wounds. And how love and connection are the only way through human pain.
Tonally, Amendment is a "non-glitzy" drama in the vein of indie films like Debra Granik's Down To The Bone or Winter's Bone, Katie Holmes' All We Had or the Oscar-winning Moonlight.

The themes of this film aren't new, but they seem to be growing worse. Only recently, we've seen three suicides linked to two of the biggest school shootings on record. Survivor's guilt was very much highlighted. Twenty years on, Columbine survivors are still battling their own PTSD.
Meanwhile, Chicago's gun crisis is being deemed a mental health crisis because of the high levels of trauma and PTSD being found in some communities. It’s a fact that survivors of gun violence suffer the exact same trauma as returning soldiers. But where's the war? Isn't this meant to be a SAFE, "First World" country?

We think this little film has BIG conversations to spark. That it has light to shed on some of the dark places that no one wants to look at.
In the words of Arthur Miller,
"I think the job of the artist is to remind people of what they have chosen to forget."

Belinda Gosbee: Writer/Producer/"Rachael"
Born and raised in Sydney Australia, Belinda is a classically theatre-trained actress who has been working for 15 years across film, television, and theatre. Recent roles include Tawny in Two Broke Girls, Jenni in The Look-See (Crypt TV), Martha in Pineapple (Sundance, Tribeca, Blackpills); and Jenny in Season 2 of L.A. Macabre (Amazon, post-production).
As a voice-over artist, she can be heard as the voice of Toyota's "Start Your Impossible" campaign across Australia/Asia, or as an old crone guide on Warner Bros' Mad Max video game. Belinda has received critical acclaim for her stage work including two seasons as Elizabeth Proctor in Arthur Miller's The Crucible (Sydney) and as Lainie in Lee Blessing's Two Rooms (Los Angeles), which she self-produced.
Belinda has a BA major in Journalism and is an alumnus of the Australians in Film Writers Room (Los Angeles).
We Are Rolling Into Pre-Production. Stay Tuned For Some Exciting Cast + Crew Announcements (July 2021)...

Making a film, even a short film, is not a cheap feat. That's why we need your help to take this story from concept to screen. We think it's such an important story, but we can't tell it alone. It takes a village to make an independent film (truly!!)
JOIN US! With your pledge we can cover funds for: camera department, sound department, locations, permits, insurance, lighting, wardrobe, makeup, payroll, catering, and actors (including a mandatory studio teacher for our child actor). Then there's everything that happens after we shoot –– post-production editing, composing, color correction, sound design. And, of course, wages for all the crew it takes to make movie magic!!
With a budget of $25,000 we're still considered an Ultra-Low Budget film and we're operating on a tight budget. However, we believe that we can make a stunning piece of cinema with this amount of money. A film that we intend on submitting to all of the most prestigious (and Oscar-qualifying) film festivals.

We've chosen a number of incentives to say a big THANK YOU for your generous contributions. These start from just $10. It's our way of letting you know that you are greatly appreciated and hopefully you'll find them a fun bonus to your contribution.
If you're willing to give, know that your contribution is going directly to the creation of a little film that hopes to spark big, important conversations.

It would mean the world to us if you could spread the word by clicking the Facebook and Twitter buttons on this page to share our campaign with your family and friends. Or even send them an email! It really does make a HUGE difference in helping us to reach more and more people!
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all of your support!
