Mission Statement

The heart of BLIND DATE is the character of Gloria, played by an Arab American actress. Our male lead is part Arab and our third lead is female. Behind the scenes are filmmakers of all ages, sexes and races and we're all committed to making the best film possible.

The Story

You know that moment when you meet someone special and you have an instant connection? You can't explain it. It's just in the air and you can't ignore it.

That's how it is for Gloria and Nick tonight.

Gloria is a smart and sophisticated woman who is sick of all the dating app BS. She just wants to meet a great guy and -- based on their brief communication so far -- thinks Nick might be that guy.

Nick is handsome and charismatic but also a little nervous. His job makes it hard to date and even harder to find someone he'd like to date more than once.

When they meet, the sparks fly!

They're having drinks! They're making jokes! Everything is going great!

However, Gloria's lovely date takes an unexpected turn, when Nick's behavior starts to change.

He suddenly bolts up from his seat and says they have to leave! What? Why?

He thinks their lives might be in danger...

BLIND DATE takes place during one crazy night in Los Angeles and follows Gloria as she tries to figure out if this great guy is just being paranoid or if people are really trying to get them.

My name is David Schumann and I'm the writer and director of BLIND DATE.

For the last 15 years I’ve lived in Los Angeles and worked as a movie trailer editor. I’ve cut trailers and tv spots for movies like GRAVITY, AMERICAN SNIPER, JUMANJI, EDGE OF TOMORROW, STAR TREK and many of the Marvel movies such as CAPTAIN AMERICA, THE AVENGERS and DOCTOR STRANGE.

I've always loved movies. All movies. Big and Small. Hollywood and Independent. American and Foreign. From a steady diet of BACK TO THE FUTURE and GHOSTBUSTERS in my youth to the worlds of Scorsese, Altman, Spielberg, Coppola, Ashby, Fincher, Wes Anderson, Michael Mann and Steven Soderbergh in my teens and twenties.

The more variety of movies I saw, the more I fell in love with them and with the idea of what they could be. I loved getting caught up in their characters and stories. I also loved studying them and reading about how they were made. I became, not just obsessed with films, but with filmmaking.

JFK, ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN, GOODFELLAS, ANNIE HALL, JACKIE BROWN, THE FUGITIVE, DIE HARD. These are some of the movies I go back to time and time again.

About a year ago I decided it was finally time to take my lifelong love and passion for movies and make one of my own.

But first I needed to write something! I wrote a short script and was super excited about making it. Then I decided it was too ambitious to be my first short film so I put it aside and wrote BLIND DATE instead. Which, as it turns out is way more ambitious! But I loved the idea and was very excited by the possibility of what the film could be.

BLIND DATE is kind of a romantic comedy/action thriller hybrid. I was inspired by the grounded romantic comedy of WHEN HARRY MET SALLY..., the sexy cool of OUT OF SIGHT, MR. & MRS. SMITH and DRIVE and tense explosiveness of THE BOURNE IDENTITY.

What I love about these movies is that they represent the very best of their genres and they all have strong, sexy romantic leads and fun, unpredictable stories.
