About The Project
A young Greek rapper loses her mother and in turn her rent-controlled apartment in the rapidly-gentrifying Astoria, Queens. Running out of options on her budget, she moves into her family’s cleaners’ van and pursues her aspirations from there.
Eleanna Mastrogiannis is a driven and high strung artist.
A Juilliard dropout turned homeless and penniless, she struggles to make ends meet and care for her younger sister, all the while still unapologetically pursuing her dream of becoming a successful rapper. "Eleanna" takes on the Hellenic experience, homelessness, and the fearlessness of passionate emerging artists.
NiVo, A successful Greek rapper Eleanna is deeply inspired by. She samples his music in her own work unbeknowest to him, and he furiously sues her.
In this home lives her mother, Gianna, a frazzled, exhausted owner of a housekeeping business she started on her own as a means to support her family upon moving to NY from Greece. Early in the series, she passes away due to an aneurysm.
As well as Calypso, an innately talented freshman at the Fame School, Laguardia, and an aspiring musician. Introverted and heart warming.
Upstairs from the girls lives their landlord, Xanthoula, an older Greek woman who has recently learned how much she can be renting the apartment for, given the new wave of millenials moving into the neighborhood. She evicts the girls almost instantly, agreeing to have Calypso in a room for $600 a month.
Eleanna, an impulsive artist with a massive heart, dropped out of Julliard after her sophomore year to begin working. She currently waitresses at a Greek restaurant, has an agent, and makes hip hop with a friend as a hobby. She moves into the cleaners van and showers at the gym to save money and cover Calypso’s rent.
Her agent, Larry, a source of comedic relief, is on the verge of dementia and has simply been doing this job for too long. Submits her for roles she’s entirely wrong for, and babbles about his health problems.
Her best friend growing up, Lawrence, a musical artist Eleana collaborates with for fun. He has the idea that she release a single in Greece where the competition is less exhausting than NY. A means of taking her career in her own hands.
The music in this series will be created by Christina Catechis in collaboration with Chris Trife Patilis, producer and engineer for artists like Mobb Deep, Eminem, and Jeremih.
