Mission Statement

We are a team of Black creators producing our own opportunities through this film. We offer meaningful African-American representation on the big screen without common stereotypes, and positive representation of Black love. The film also put a spotlight on mental health in the Black community.

The Story

The Story

Donovan and Layla are recent empty nesters struggling to rebuild their marriage deeply fractured after infidelity. While Layla grapples with depression, isolation, and insecurity, Donovan works tirelessly trying to keep them financially afloat while gaining back his wife’s trust.

When Justin, a charming and sexy 21-year-old young man, rents the vacant unit of their live-in duplex, it's not long before Justin forms a bond or perhaps an obsession with Layla. When Donovan learns that Justin may not be who he says he is, he finds himself in a race against time to save his marriage and everything he’s worked desperately to regain.

The Impact

Entanglement's creative team, including the writer, director, and producer, are all Black. Not often do we see Black protagonists at the forefront of psychological thrillers; that's why we wanted to take this opportunity to create our film.

According to UCLA's Hollywood Diversity Report from 2018, only 1.4 out of 10 leading actors in film were people of color. Representation, especially for darker-skin actors, matters. Behind the scenes, the figures are not much better.

With this movie, we want to bring awareness to two important issues to increase the representation of Black love and increase awareness of mental health issues in our community. At the end of the day, our goal is to tell authentic stories that embrace diversity and inclusion.

What We Need

Unique and diverse stories need to be told; however, we can't do it without your help. Film is a powerful platform because it reaches a wider audience. But production costs for a high-quality short film can be challenging. In order to bring our vision to life, we need to pay for things like costumes, sets, post-production, camera equipment, editing software, permits for locations -- the list goes on and on.

Pandemic

Our team will hire a COVID-19 Compliance officer, require Covid19 testing for cast and crew and require social distancing and PPE be worn on set. Since the pandemic, one in four Americans suffer from some form of mental illness. Rather than just entertain, we also want to tell people where they can get help.

We are looking to create a supportive community of people who also want to see more Black stories that differ from what we see in the media. This is why we are doing a crowdfunding campaign, for us, it is a movement to bring awareness to issues that affect the Black community and transform the narrative.
