Why I’m Making This Film

I was inspired to tell this story because in part; it is my own. The family in which I grew up was dominated by fierce and opinionated women. It has been difficult to reconcile that these women who I admire; are the same people who inflicted serious harm upon my self image.
But as I got older I learned that the reason for this treatment had nothing to do with me; but rather this harsh scrutinization of young women’s appearance is extremely standard treatment in Italian society. Like many cultures, Italian culture has a serious issue with viewing women as objects; their worth being valued by their body and their beauty.

This way of thinking is a vicious cycle that is passed down by generations; inflicting serious harm on the self esteem and mental health of the young women who are subjected to it. I am making this film in hopes of ending this cycle in my family, and inspiring others to do the same. I hope that this film will provide a source of solace for other people who have been through a similar experience, and to challenge the thinking of those who still consciously or subconsciously enforce these standards.
Your Impact

Authenticity is the most important part of the creative process for this production, that means hiring very specific actors, renting lights and lenses, and buying costumes and props that are true to Sicilian American heritage.

Please donate anything you can, no amount is too small! If you cannot donate, share this post, tell your friends and family about it, spreading the word is a great way to help. Telling this important story means spreading awareness about this relatively hidden social problem. Your contribution is what makes this film possible!
Visual Aspects

To help depict my film’s visual landscape, the most important aspects of imagery and symbolism are: Reflections and mirrors, Religion; the catholic religion and of course, the Sicilian American culture itself.
After Shooting
Once we finish shooting our editors will be hard at work, creating a fine cut, coloring, and sound mixing. After we have completed the project we will send it out to festivals. We are extremely excited for you to see the finished product.
Thank you so much,
