Half-Quaked is the brainchild of Casey Pfeifer, who created the film's comical, endearing characters as a way of dealing with anxiety & depression. For those who find solace in laughter, this film is for you. "There’s no real security except for whatever you build inside yourself." -Gilda Radner
Inclusion StatementBeing two woman filmmakers who created Half-Quaked from the ground up -- writing, producing, directing, starring, and crew -- we are big supporters of inclusion and representation of minority groups. Of our full cast of 17 actors, 9 are women, 8 are non-white, and ages range from 14-60+ years old.
About The Project
Created and directed by Casey Pfeifer and Rochelle Muzquiz, Half-Quaked is a mockumentary premiering in Portland, Oregon.
In this ground-breaking comedy, an earthquake looms as an anxious journalist improvises through the misadventures of making her first documentary.
Anxious about an earthquake predicted to hit the Pacific Northwest, Journalist Roberta Aguilar (Rochelle Muzquiz) goes to see a therapist. Dr. Chameleon (Casey Pfeifer) is not Roberta's first choice due to her questionable methods, but Roberta leaves the session with one solid piece of advice: to channel her anxiety into making her first documentary. So, over the next year, she interviews locals around Portland about earthquake preparedness to make peace with her own inner shakiness.
With the documentary portion of the film structured much like a variety show, Half-Quaked features improvised interview scenarios with five main characters, all developed and portrayed by Casey Pfeifer, interspersed with vlog-like vignettes and spoof ads (and even one real-life interview!) of supporting characters created and improvised by a cast of talented Portland actors and friends.
The characters in this film were created as an escape from depression & heaviness, and we are passionate about bringing lightness & humor to the world. Sometimes life can feel daunting, and hope for us has always been found in laughter.

Rochelle Muzquiz is a Portland-based actor, filmmaker, and musician.
Rochelle spent her childhood performing in plays and making improv videos with a VHS camcorder at slumber parties. When she was 14, she wrote a script using Barbie dolls called Empty Heads and spent the summer building miniature sets in her living room (shout out to Mom!). In 2013, she decided to pursue acting professionally and trained for the past five years with Kristina Haddad in The Actor's Lab.
Rochelle is proudly represented by Arthouse Talent in Portland. In addition to Half-Quaked, Rochelle is co-creator, writer and actor in an upcoming sci-fi drama series called Exceptionals with filmmaker Greg Kerr.
As a musician, Rochelle has written, sung and played guitar and percussion in Portland bands The Yes-And Band, The Milford Academy, Chica y los Gatos and Atlanta-based Heart Hunters. In 2014, Rochelle and her twin sister got a wild hair (as they do) and launched an ongoing project (actually, a revolution!) called Twin Empire. Find out more at rochellemuzquiz.com.
