Story
About The Project
My name is Jason Maris, and I am the Director of Homemade. I have been working with the United States Marine Corps as freelance commercial photographer for over 20 years. I am responsible for approximately 90% of all recruitment materials that you may see when you go into a USMC recruitment station, on the website and on billboards.
When the US went to war in Afghanistan and later Iraq, I struggled with the reality that my work would contribute to the injury and death of young military personnel. I felt a new responsibility for the men and women who were now actively engaged in combat to protect our country. As I set forth to reconcile my choices as a photographer, a father and an American, I started offering to photograph or film for organizations such as Bob Woodruff Foundation, REMIND and Travis Manion Foundation. This gave me the opportunity to spend time with wounded service men and women, their families and medical specialists. This experience clarified that it was, in fact, my obligation to give these men and women a bigger voice and bring awareness and understanding to the great needs of combat veterans. Meeting some of the service members coming home for war was one of the most meaningful experiences in my life both personally and professionally. They are the inspiration for Homemade.

About This Team
Jason has photographed the advertising needs of the United States Marine Corps for the past 15 years. His work for the Marines has been used online, in brochures, on posters and billboards to help recruit people to fight for our country.
Danielle is an award winning filmmaker dedicated films that address a range of social issues. Danielle founded Clear Films in 2006. She is the recipient of a Cine Golden Eagle Award, Accolade Award and the NYSCA grant for her first film, When Clouds Clear. After working with Jason on USMC commercials and later meeting the men and women at ReMIND, she was inspired to make a film that could effect measurable change.Together the directors want to spark an ongoing and lasting dialog through this project. Our goal is to make a cinematic, story driven documentary film that raises awareness, support and sends a message to all veterans they are neither forgotten or alone.
