The King's Speech
The title of our film, as well as the tile track, is based on a song written by the grandmother of our composer: Mitchell Thomas. Mitch's grandmother had a close relationship with Dr. King and his wife Coretta Scott King. She wrote the song, "If You Can't Fly Then Run," based on one of Dr. King's speeches.
For over 50 years, the song was only heard at Far View Ranch Camp. Now, for the first time, it has been recorded and digitally released for our film.
Along with contributing to our film, 15% of every sale will go to composer Mitchell Thomas to support his work.

Story
About The Project
If You Can't Fly, Then Run is based on a song whose lyrics were taken from a speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
As the song goes:
"If you can't fly, then run
If you can't run, then walk,
But keep on moving along."
Our film is a dark drama based in a hypothetical future where wealth and poverty have been driven to extremes. Our four main characters, in their desperation, have stolen a gun in hopes that it will lift them out of poverty. Of course, the people they have stolen from are out looking for them and, in the dark, these two parties collide. When we add guns and take away compassion, there's only room for violence.
Our film poses a question about the cycle of poverty, desperation, violence that plays out in our society on a daily basis. When a population is forced into disparate classes both the haves and the have nots lose sight of their common humanity.
We've grappled with a lack of compassion for long before Dr. King spoke those powerful words. The dialogue around the issues of poverty and power and violence must continue to evolve. Our film is a challenge to viewers to advance the dialogue.
