An all-female cast and diverse crew brings visibility to the identities of queer, Latinx, and disabled persons in a unique pop-punk narrative.
About The Project
Set in 2006, Selena Hernandez struggles to navigate a toxic relationship with her mother Janis, as she embarks on her first queer relationship with her best friend Kylie. She takes solace in the accepting alternative world of emo and pop-punk.
Janis grapples with a debilitaing disease. As her quality of life declines, she finds herself coping by turning to alcohol. The boundaries of a healthy mother-daughter relationship become fuzzy.
When Kylie takes notice, Selena is forced to choose between her realtionship with her mother, and her well-being.
This is an autobiographical, narrative short. Our writer/director is a queer, Latinx, emo kid who has lived this story. She wants to bring visibilty to the queer Latinx community, the queer punk community, and those who have dealt with toxic familial relationships from a young age.
Our film is about inclusion and honesty. We explore the cultural differences that exist between two mother and daughter relationships. We examine toxic behaviors that transcende these differences.
We have created a film that has a talented all-female cast, many whom identify with the Latinx and queer community. Our diverse crew is made up of experienced women and allies.
We are working with pop-punk, and emo bands to create an original soundtrack for the film and support other indpendent artists.
