About The Project
After a tense breakup, a young couple must balance a split that doesn't quite fall evenly down the middle...
Jealous is a love story turned on its head.
This 13-minute dramatic short film was inspired by Jealous, a powerful song by UK artist Labrinth. This woeful ballad is a manifestation of heartbreak, the realization of love lost, love missed, and a love that is yearned for. We intend to license the instrumental version of this song to pay homage to the musical art that inspired this film.
Jealous is a film for anyone who’s ever been frustrated in love. (So basically a film for everyone.) This story is about the ex’s that we keep running back to, after we’ve called it quits one too many times. I call it Love Recidivism: The art of not being able to let go.
In a world where there are so many ways to be “in-touch” with one another, I wanted to see how these tools can fail us, and make it more difficult to say what we really need to say.
Following an uncertain breakup, an earnest young man spends the subsequent weeks preoccupied with his ex-girlfriend, camping out at their "spot", leaving her messages, and doing "research" on her social media, all in an effort to track her down and convince her that they belong together. He thinks they have that boomerang love. He's not worried.
She said all she wanted was space. Little did he know how far she would go.

Pieces of the Practical Pie
While I am not a first-time storyteller, I am a first-time filmmaker. And first-time filmmakers have to begin somewhere, it's inherent in the name.
As a writer/director, I want to cut my teeth on a captivating, character-driven story with universal themes, and I love love, without the clichés.
So I tested out the script at the local Broken Barriers' cold reading series in a room of strangers. The actors were volunteers and had no real prep time, but the story was palpable; the gasps and positive energy from the audience were like affirmations floating over our heads.
JEALOUS -- Live Reading
They asked, “What’s next? What are your plans for this script?” And I honestly believe a fear of failure held me back. I didn't have a real answer then. But I’ve since given it a great deal of thought, and remembered the wisdom of Maya Angelou:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most."
So this is it. No more standing on the sidelines, waiting to jump in. This is where I choose to start, with a story about black love, emboldened by women like Lady Bird’s Greta Gerwig, and the multi-talented Ava Duvernay. And in that vulnerability, and with an amazing team of collaborators who believe in me and in this short film's potential, I know the art will almost create itself.

Credits include: Dave Chappelle's Equanimity and The Bird Revelation, All Def Comedy, Def Comedy Jam 25th Reunion, Real Husbands of Hollywood, and more...
ABOUT HER VOICE: You know the space where two Venn Diagrams overlap? She lives in that space. She is both Brooklyn city girl and Southern hospitality, the arrogance of the American Dream, add Caribbean exceptionalism. Her characters tend to be witty yet warmhearted or loud and unapologetic. The complexity lies in the in-between. She's also an anthropologist; people-watching is a personal hobby. She enjoys studying and writing about what she doesn't know, to ask the question, "Why?" Her writing is essentially all about discovery.
