Kalila Stormfire's Economical Magick Services: The Final Season
Kalila Stormfire's Economical Magick Services: The Final Season
For two seasons, Kalila Stormfire has managed complex clients in her magick business and her own shadows. Now her community must face both the light and darkness that dwells in the heart of the city itself. Will Brushland survive this liminal state? Support the finale season to find out.
Inclusion StatementLisette Alvarez (they/them), the creator of the show, is a genderqueer Latinx storyteller. They have not only hired a majority minority cast and crew, but the story itself also deals with the complex issues of working-class and minority urban neighborhoods. Inclusion is at the center of our story.
About The Project
Kalila Stormfire's Economical Magick Services is an ongoing urban fantasy podcast written by Lisette Alvarez and produced by Stormfire Productions.
The story centers around Kalila Stormfire, a young woman and business owner working out of her basement studio apartment after a controversial fallout with her coven. While she attempts to get established as friendly neighborhood witch, she begins to hear rumors of someone dissuading clients from seeking her services.
Set in the fictional city of Brushland, this is a world where magick is a little more real than ours. Goddesses, curses, fae, astral projection, werewolves, and changelings are natural features. The setting however, also does not shy away from some of the real world problems of poverty, racism, and healthcare experienced by people of color and queer folks. Most of Kalila's clients live in and around her neighborhood; a multicultural working class community.
KALILA STORMFIRE was made for people who enjoy tales of meddling love goddesses, witches talking to their familiars, and the limits of magick. This story is about how we deal with failure--individually and collectively--and how sometimes our shadows don't quite take the shape we expect.
What It Takes To Make Magic(k)
Fiction podcasting is a wildly expanding and exciting medium. With the lower barrier of entry compared to other mediums, fiction podcasts represent an opportunity for so many unheard stories from marginalized creators. Our goal is to keep the growth of production sustainable and be an example for upcoming fiction podcast producers that success in the medium is possible.
This campaign is meant to support the production costs for the third, and final, season of KALILA STORMFIRE. Over the course of only two seasons, the show has grown from a single voice to a full cast of over 10 reoccurring actors and a professional sound designer. The final season will include more world-building, longer episodes, as well as additional guest actors.
But we're not just aiming to send off KALILA STORMFIRE with an amazing finale season.
We want to go further.
$10K Stretch Goal: Finale Live Show
If you help us meet our wildest dreams and take us past our $7,000 season goal, we will put every cent of it towards a finale live show in Washington, DC in late fall/winter 2020.
We already have experience putting on a live event with 2019's ONCE UPON A PODCAST in NYC, and we're excited to send off KALILA STORMFIRE with its own live show. This stretch goal will allow us to cover costs of venue, live sound design, actor honorariums, and maybe even help us pay for intercontinental flights for a few of our intercontinental voice talent!
Depending on how far we get towards the stretch goal, we may be able to include witchy performers and guests like tarot readers, as well as host a pre-show witchy adventure in the region that inspired the fictional city of Brushland.
