Both quirky and dark, this IS a medieval fantasy, only, you might find it far more... “American” than most. This is not just another genre-bender satire: Knight Time is a coming-of-age story about saviorism and expectations, a rejection of sensational heroism.

Story
Mission Statement
I grew up with the films of knights and cowboys; Yet, as I’ve grown as a young man and an artist, the flaws of these grandiose myths have become more clear. It's my goal to deconstruct those old themes by telling a far more honest and personal story; of the need to prove one’s own worth.About The Project
The Story of Knight Time
Naivete & Nihilism
This is Cram’s “not-so-heroic” coming-of-age story. Cram left the gentry to apprentice under a knight; but now, being a squire, he’s starting to realize that this job is not all that he talked it up to be. When Cram sees the opportunity to take advantage of his master, the Knight “Dusty”, he makes the case that he should get the experience and lead the next quest himself. Dusty agrees reluctantly, and Cram gets the next twenty-four hours to prove himself a hero.
The Characters of Knight Time
Ryman Crambley, “Cram”A pretty-boy, a bookworm, a pretentious snob, and a lovable dreamer of a young man. While he is only a squire, he has the spirit of the noblest of knights; just, without any of the wisdom. He has a lot to learn, and a lot of it will have to be the hard way.
Sir Gideon, “Dusty”
Dusty is so far from the typical ideal of the noble knight; Dusty is more the picture of that reclusive bounty hunter and celebrity among the tavern roughnecks. Though he is old and jaded, he has a caring heart in there somewhere, whether he realizes it or not.
The Cinematography and Inspirations of Knight TimeThis project has a special emphasis on its cinematography. Knight Time will be shot in 1.33 aspect ratio and on vintage Nikon FD Prime lens. We want the cinematography to reflect not only the antiqueness of the films that inspired it, but the outdated types of stories this film deconstructs. We hope to capture this with a “pensive quirkiness” to the cinematography, by using the camera and lighting to confront the characters’ inner worlds. Our major influences for the cinematography come from the works of Wes Anderson and the Cohen Brothers.
The Plan for Knight TimeWe are currently in pre-production and will not start principal photography till November 2nd. After everything is shot, we aim to have the film hit the festival circuit by May of 2021.
The Locations
We have scouted all over Central Virginia for the perfect locations to bring this vibrant and deadly world to you. Shooting from the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, to the rolling woodlands of Cumberland County, we are excited to bring this world to life while exploring a world that is wholly original.
The Equipment
This film is also acting as G. E. Colvin’s student thesis film, and so, we will be shooting on professional industry-standard equipment provided to us by the Zaki Gordan Center for Cinematic Arts. All the crew have been classically trained with this top-tier equipment.
The Safety
This is the elephant in the room. I hear everyone asking already, “How are you going to keep everyone on set safe?” and “Why not wait till the pandemic is over?” First of all, in order to keep everyone on set safe, we are taking Industry/Union-level precautions, from social distancing, to facemasks being required at all times other than during takes, and all the way to sanitizing every set and equipment piece possible. We simply cannot change dates, due not only to the fact that this film is for a Fall course credit, but also that we have put money into confirming resources that we would not otherwise be able to reserve later on. Even though there is a pandemic, this amazing and tight-knit group of filmmakers has worked on enough projects together to not let anything get them down and in the way of their passion!
