Story
About The Project
Over the past eight years, I have repeatedly dabbled in the fine and sometimes not-so-fine art of filmmaking. I have gained a lot of experience working on documentaries, commercials, TV shows, and narrative features in a variety of roles through every phase of the filmmaking process. From pre-production research to publicity and distribution, I have watched and learned from my own successes and mistakes and from the successes and challenges of my peers and employers, always adding to my mental list of do’s and don'ts.
In the months following my brother’s death, when I felt like a shell of a human being, a character came to me. Then another character. And then a story. In those darkest months, when I couldn’t do anything else, I conceived of and wrote the first drafts of this story.
As many of my friends know, I’m a person who can move on from an idea as quickly as I hatch it. But over the past three years, these characters and this story have stuck with me, nagging at me, continually begging for attention. The idea that I might realize that vision has haunted me so much that I know I will regret it if I don’t produce this film.
My friends and professional peers have played a big role in the development of this campaign (you can see the bios of several of them below). Without their encouragement, I may not have drummed up the courage to crowdfund the financing of this film. But as one experienced producer told me upon reading the script, "You have a unique voice, and it needs to be heard."
The location of my hometown is an important aspect of this story as well. I spend a lot of my time now in NYC, but I revere the earth that I was borne from and increasingly feel the need to do more to protect and grow what little pockets of cultural resonance survive in an increasingly bleak expanse of suburban rot. My screenplay is about isolated and lonely people who struggle to survive and connect in the suburbs on their own terms.
Art for art’s sake is a sacred rite of human progress. After 35 years on this planet, I feel that I have something to say about the human condition and that I can say it in a way that is beautiful.

Current Team
About This Team
Producing Team:
Emily Calhoun is the Writer and Director of The Last Glimmer. Emily is a Jill-of-many-trades, with eight years of experience working on documentary, investigative, and unscripted programming, most recently as Associate Producer for We Break Things, a documentary about hackers. Five years ago, she quit her job as the Research Director of a think tank, picked up a video camera, and started making her own motion pictures. She writes, ghost- writes, edits and proofreads words; produces and edits video; and serves as a creative consultant for artists and artisans. From PBS docs to Hollywood features, Emily has played many roles in production, but The Last Glimmer is Emily’s debut as a narrative-format producer and director.
Jennifer Sorika Horng will head up Casting. Jenn is an accomplished SAG actor and writer from Quebec City, home of the poutine. She has written, produced and starred in a number of her own projects, notably a TV pilot, Staff, and the cult comedy web series Stooped. She has made appearances on TV shows including One Life to Live (ABC) and Golden Boy (CBS) and was most recently featured in Fox Searchlight's movie Black Nativity. Jenn also just finished writing a web series for Billy Boy Enterprises, where she is a contributing blogger, and is a writer for Kroma Mag. A graduate of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy's Studio Program, Jenn has also honed her skills at the MTB Studio, and in workshops with prominent casting directors such as Jennifer Rudolph at the Actors Green Room, Brette Goldstein and Geoffrey Soffer.
Sarah Dryden will run Production Design. Sarah has been involved in film and TV production for many years, beginning as an assistant on Paramount Pictures’ Drillbit Taylor and then as an actor in films, music videos, and web series. She ultimately found her niche in the Art Department, where she can combine her love of film production with myriad creative skills and a savvy sense of design. Most recently, she was Art Director for the web series Rom-Con; Set Decorator for a Professor Possessor music video; and she is currently Set Dressing an AFI film. Sarah studied at Towson University in Maryland; the Academy of Art in San Francisco; and the Beverly Hills Playhouse Acting School in Los Angeles.
Jaime Tollefson is our dedicated Fundraising Manager. Jaime makes her debut in the film industry with The Last Glimmer, bringing with her a decade of project management and event promotion experience. Whether it’s managing a softball team or throwing a gala, Jaime knows how to get it done! A proud and involved resident of Oakland, CA, you can sometimes find this certified project manager, Roller Derby champion, and active Gold Star sister at home on the shores of Lake Merritt punching out poems on her vintage type-writer.
Meg Crowel has signed on as our Production Consultant. Meg has over 10 years experience in every stage of production, including six years in various roles at LucasFilms. She is especially experienced in post-production: at Industrial Light & Magic, she was Production Coordinator for Transformers: Age of Extinction, and she is currently an Associate Producer at WHISKEYTREE.
Justin Lomax will serve as a Budget/Logistical Consultant. Justin has over 14 years of independent production experience. Several years ago, Justin sold his production company to Square, where he now is Lead Video Producer.
