The Story

Free State Roller Derby's mission is to provide an accessible way to empower skaters of all skill levels to learn and play the sport of all-women’s flat track roller derby, develop self-confidence, and increase fitness in a safe, supportive, diverse, and welcoming environment. FSRD is based in Rockville, MD, and feature two travel teams—the Black-Eyed Suzies and Rock Villains—that have a busy schedule of bouts and events.

The LIVE FREE. SKATE HARD. documentary will capture roller derby’s unique culture through the voices and images of FSRD skaters, crew, officials, and coaches—at games and behind the scenes.

Roller derby is truly the most popular sport hidden in plain sight! The audience will be educated, entertained, and amazed at the rich and varied characters’ stories and journeys. It will crack open your mind to witness the empowerment, inclusiveness, support, and celebration of a world-wide movement.
