The Master Cleanse
The Master Cleanse
When Jim falls in love with Brook, an idealistic hippie who lives in a Brooklyn commune, he knows this won’t be a run-of-the-mill affair. But what he fails to realize is that her “Master Cleanse” has nothing to do with cayenne, lemon, and maple syrup. (Portlandia meets Rosemary's Baby)

Story
About The Project
Daniel Goldberg was born and raised in the neighborhood and knows Park Slope, Brooklyn inside out. He’s a practicing meditator and proud veteran of many spiritual and self-help communities, having visited Insight Meditation Society, Ganas, Cosm, Maharishi University, and Omega Institute. When he and Ittai Orr set about inventing the fictional world of Manifest Refuge, they both wanted to create a wryly humorous vision that would poke fun at some of the excesses of such “intentional communities”. But as darkly satirical and absurd as that vision is, it’s also imbued with a great deal of compassion for the characters. The Master Cleanse is, at its core, a story about a guy and a girl trying to define the limits of their feelings for one another. Where does deep, profound friendship overlap with love? Daniel and Ittai felt that the perversely idealistic world of Manifest Refuge was the perfect place to examine such questions in a funny and provocative way.

Current Team
About This Team
Director, co-writer, and co-producer Daniel Goldberg is a staff critic at Slant Magazine, where he reviews current TV series. Having written several feature-length screenplays, he decided to take matters into his own hands by directing, co-writing and producing a short film that could be brought to the screen by independent film audiences rather than studio executives. He spends his days dreaming about Manifest Refuge, and cannot wait to bring this strange world to life.
Josh Fisher is a New York based cinematographer. Born and raised in Brooklyn, he began studying film at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts in 2001. Josh works on commercials, television, music videos, documentaries, and theatrical features. Josh’s first theatrical feature film as director of photography, Hunter, starring Giles Matthey (True Blood) was shot in 2011.
