Out of Darkness Cleveland - EPISODE "Texas Riots of 2016"
Emmy winning writer Alex P. Michaels' crime/sci-fi series is "Law & Order" meets "Doctor Who." Set in an alternate reality where the internet was created in the 1950s and the USA is a police state. We need funds to finish the episode on Texas Riots of 2016. We plan to air starting Fall 2019.
Inclusion StatementDiversity and Inclusion has always been a part of what I choose to convey in my art. This series features strong female leads, a diverse cast and looks at the lines between those who have sworn to protect us and the people who feel justice is different depending on your race or class.
About The Project
THE TEXAS RIOTS OF 2016 EPISODE
"Where we you during the Texas Riots of 2016?"
THE STORY OF "OUT DARKNESS: CLEVELAND"
"Out of Darkness: Cleveland" will be shot in the real city of Cleveland, Ohio but takes place in a fictionalized version of it named Cleaveland. It is a city that needs saving. After a series of police shootings across the country, the Government steps in with the FORCE (Federal Officers Resisting Criminal Elements) to protect the residents. The story is seen through the eyes of a young Latina police officer who becomes part of the FORCE because she saved a number of police from a massacre. The story is not all black and white, as the Latina police officer/government agent deals with her questionably ethical supervisors, an urban legend about a shadow devouring criminals and a Senator who has come to town to shut the FORCE down after a shooting incident.
FINISHING FUNDS FOR "TEXAS RIOTS"
We need funds to finish editing the Texas Riots episode. This story sets up the world of "Out of Darkness: Cleveland" and introduces the characters of President Franks and the Government Agents.
Years ago, I won an Emmy for writing a TV movie.
I thought I was ready to launch my dream: A movie studio based on the old Hollywood studio system. So I got some money from family and friends and I shot movies. I had acted on stage at the Karamu House and worked with a local filmmaker Robert Banks and shot a short in 16mm.
I figured I was ready to tackle a feature film.
Now I would love to tell you how the movie opened all kind of doors for me and it was polished and looked and sounded great, but I can't.
I created the first dramatic TV series shot in my hometown of Cleveland. As an artist, I thought I was ready, I've always believed it was better to do something than not do anything. I also knew I had a lot to learn. Being a writer, it is just you alone and you create the world and the story. Yet, when you make a movie, you need people. I wish I had the people I needed to create what was in my head and what I could write on paper. I feel I got close when I did a TV series named "Out of Darkness."
While I felt close to my dream, we didn't have the budget to continue or hire name actors and after a few episodes, the series died, but my dream of making a TV series in my hometown didn't.
It was time to regroup and learn. For a few years, I studied movies and business and while I was desiring to get back into shooting creatively, I wanted to see my vision done the right way. I worked as an actor on a few parts that helped me be creative. Yet, I kept coming back to this story. It haunted me. If you are creative, you know what that means. You have a story that won't go away until you get it out to the world.
I know the only way to do this by pulling on all my resources from being an artist here for many years. I also know it will take money. This is my vision, my dream, and I want it to finally come to life in the way it should.
Some who visit this page may know me and others may not. I can say one thing. I am dedicated to this. I promise it will look and sound polished and the story is one worth telling. I also want you to get to know me and be a friend to help this production, this story, this vision come to life. All I need is "A Little Help from my Friends."
Here is a look at the original "Out of Darkness" which was aired nationally as the first dramatic TV Series set and shot in Cleveland, Ohio.
WHY THE TIME IS RIGHT, NOW?
Here is a look at the new teaser. A lot has changed in terms of technology and the attitude of independent filmmaking in Cleveland since I shot the original show. I also think I have grown as an artist. So, while I have worked on other stories, I am still passionate about bringing this one to life and having it live on as a continual series. I appreciate your time and hope for your support.
