Three years ago, my father passed away from esophageal cancer. Afterwards, my family and I learned that finding laughter is a vital necessity in the grieving process. I've always been fascinated by the subject of physician-assisted death. So I wrote something that would marry the two subjects.

The Story

Laura is only 25 and has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. After finding out she doesn’t have long to live and that it won’t be a pretty journey, she decides to exercise her legal right to physician-assisted death. But before she departs, she has a few things to say to her loved ones.

So why should you help us? What makes us so special? We want to share a unique story about being young and confronting one's looming death, in a humorous way. There is nothing funny about dying. I've seen it firsthand. But I truly believe that if those who are left to grieve can't find a way to laugh again, they are doomed. Life -- and death -- is scary. But more importantly, life is funny and inspiring and so beautiful. We want to share this perspective with you.

We will bring a character to life who will not let death control her remaining days. A character who won't let death put a filter on her authentic, unapologetic self.

If you knew you had a limited time left on Earth, what would you tell your loved ones? It's a very simple "what if". Not so simple when you're dealing with Laura. What will she say...?
