Satyavati - And we call this love
When you are shunned and looked down upon for non-conformance, there is nowhere to go. When your protector has become the threat, there is nowhere to go. When the crime gets legitimized in the garb of tradition, there is nowhere to go. With your support, we hope to bring awareness and heal the scars
Inclusion StatementHumanity binds all. We are calling for everyone to be humans first. The divisions we have created age/class/race/gender/sexuality/religion whatever be, the cause remains the same- HUMANITY. Our subject deals with Humans (LGBT), so called taboo. Our woman director's strong conviction with her debut.
About The Project
"When you are shunned and looked down upon for non-conformance, there is nowhere to go. When your protector has become the threat, there is nowhere to go.
When the crime gets legitimized in the garb of tradition, there is nowhere to go"
Satyavati- and we call this love is a story that takes place in today's times where tenderness & innocence come under attack and all that remain is a scar. And nowhere to go.
I would like to introduce you to my debut film “Satyavati - and we call this love, which is one of the first movies to bring focus on the issue of being lesbian in an unaccepting society. Our movie has been featured in more than 80 international and national new papers, websites and blogs (Times of India, Thomas Reuters, Kyodo News, Japan and many other blogs). The movie had attracted a lot of support & followers on social media. We have good social media and press coverage, both in India and Internationally. The Director's cut of the movie is ready and the movie has been featured in Washington DC, Perth, and Taiwan LGBT film festivals.
We are seeking support to make further changes mainly in edit, music and to bring out other marketing materials. Out come of the current stage would be to bring the movie to a larger audience to spread the awareness. Around 32% of the funds raised will be used for editing, sound, and grading. 51% of the funds raised will be utilized for creating deliverables, sound and marketing materials. Rest will be used for music, subtitles, and other miscellaneous expenses.
The movie is intriguing, dramatic and dwells with the emotions and dreams of a group of young friends, which in turn comes in a clash with the patriarchal and misconstrued values based on legacy. One misunderstanding leads to another resulting in horror. Satyavati-and we call this love is a journey through the dark lanes of our unforgiving society, draconian laws, barbaric beliefs in corrective rape and honor killings.
"Satvayati - and we call this love" is fiscally sponsored by The Film Collaborative, a United States 501(c)3 organization. ALL donations are tax deductible for qualified US donors.

Mohan comes across as a quiet person, but when it comes to films the fire in his eyes tells it all. Very grounded and hardworking, Mohan is a little ball of energy. Passionate about writing, when an idea comes into his mind he retreats into isolation and doesn’t emerge till he is satisfied with his work. Quite a film buff, he is working on Satyavati as an assistant.
