This project is takes a grounded look at what saving a city would actually look like. Everyone thinks they know what being a hero is but reality is far more complex than cops and robbers. It's a project with no easy answers and we are excited to bring it to you.
Inclusion StatementSemper Vigilantes is directed by a black woman, staring a black man and written and produced by this brother/sister team. Our mission is to represent the city of Cleveland in the most honest way possible, which means including more POC, women and queer people every step of the way
About The Project
Semper Vigilantes started as a short script back in 2016 written on a whim. It is a story about Malcolm, a young man who is frustrated by all the corruption and crime at every level in the city of Cleveland. After trying to make a change through traditional means, Malcolm decides to make a desperate choice in order to take a stand. At the same time, Gio, the renowned "Son of the City" happens to have the same goals but drastically different means. When these two men clash, it's Cleveland that ends up suffering the most.
We immediately fell in love with the potential of the story at hand - a straightforward look at what would happen if someone decided to become a vigilante, what it means to actually work outside of the law for just reasons and what kind of people such a lifestyle would draw. As comic book fans, we knew this kind of hero deconstruction wasn't necessarily new, but very few stories in this genre are 1) fully grounded in reality, 2) star black and brown people, or 3) created by black and brown people. Semper Vigilantes has all three.
We are looking to expand this initial idea into a full feature film but we want to do this the right way, with a careful pre-production stage as we bring in the best cast and crew. Our hope to create the best version of this story for audiences who are ready to push the boundaries this genre in a way that is both relevant and timeless. We don't expect to find full funding for a feature length film through crowdsourcing alone. We just want to get the ball rolling so we can show funders what we are made of. This means creating a full proof of concept we will then shop around to producers and festivals.
As this campaign continues we will reveal more promotional material, camera tests and behind the scenes footage. We know your participation is valuable and we are excited to show how we'll earn it. If you like what you see so far, please consider donating and sharing this campaign with those you know will feel the same.
And above all, stay tuned...

About This Team
We are Jasmine and Chris, a pair of siblings from Cleveland Hts, Ohio. We have been making films and music since our early teens- writing and directing all kinds of stories for Jasmine, making music that ranges from old school blues to melodic death metal for Chris. Which is to say that the story told is more important the genre its explored in for us.
We have been planning this project for almost two years now, writing and rewriting various verisons of this script until we had something we could be proud of. Now is finally the time to take a leap to bring it to life. Our vision is clear and we are excited to bring it to you. If you have ever enjoyed any of our work before - from To New Beginnings to Morir Es Vivir to The Realist Insight- then you will enjoy this story.
Lastly, we can very likely recite Batman: Mask of the Phanstam by heart.
