Stuffing the Turkey
Stuffing the Turkey is unique in that it blends live theatre and film to tell one cohesive story. Now that the live production is done the plan is to film the stage components and submit it to festivals but we need to crowdfund to get the family back together.
Inclusion Statement8 out of 9 members of the ensemble cast are POC and so is the majority of the production team. The characters in Stuffing the Turkey aspire for a future that is better than their present and they are defined by their flaws, not by an ethnic label.
About The Project
Writer and director, Tony Mendoza, Director of Photography, Pablo Ponce and the rest of the Broad Shoulders Productions (BSPfilm) present Stuffing the Turkey, a comedic drama presented as a composite of theatre and film.
The production is a reunion of a Latinx family who is coming to terms with its identity as heritage, society, and technology have shaped each member in their own uniquely American way.
The Story of Stuffing the Turkey:
As a commercial airline pilot, Ana (Ana Maria Alvarez) spent most holidays in the air, away from her husband, Carlo, (Elio Leturia) a college professor, and four children. Having recently retired, she is excited to finally be home and make up for lost time with her family.
Her plans are unsettled when her daughter, Kat, (Ashley Yates) announces a fast-approaching move to Costa Rica.
Determined to have one last dinner with the whole clan, Ana reschedules Thanksgiving for March and insists everyone attend!
Ana and Carlo’s adult children reluctantly oblige, but Kat is not the only one whose life has taken a new route.
New revelations, as well as some unexpected guests, transform this early Thanksgiving dinner into a beautifully chaotic family affair that no one will want to miss.
Stuffing the Turkey features a diverse cast that includes Ana María Alvarez, Elio Leturia, Nathalie Galde, Ashley Yates, María Velázquez, Saif Siddiqui, Richard Bronson, and Nydia Castillo.
The Story behind Stuffing the Turkey:
Tony Mendoza began writing the script for Stuffing The Turkey while home for Thanksgiving during his senior year of college. It was the last Thanksgiving that his family would share together, as his parents would (finally) get divorced two months later. The dinner was cold and much like in STT the food was lousy. Eating in silence, his mind began to drift (as it tends to do) and his imagination wandered to the kitchen window of the family in Stuffing the Turkey. Through that window, he saw a mother who just retired as an airline pilot, a father who is a college professor, and a son who is a doctor. The family he was watching was Latinx, but they were defined by their own strengths and flaws and not by any ethnic label.

About This Team
Broad Shoulders Productions's background is in theater and our love is film, which has created in us a focus to use our experience with both forms of storytelling to create something raw and challenging.
Every project we develop has to 'entertain, educate, and evoke' some kind of response from our audience. BSP believes that if our audience leaves without taking something from the Production then we have failed as content creators.
