Two years ago they followed several travel blogs and joined online travel groups that failed to addressed the Black American experience of living abroad. They later found a few "kindred spirits" living in Italy who were willing to share their story. They immediately booked a trip to Italy, and followed it up with two more international trips that took them to China and Spain within another year. The need to tell the experience in South Africa was prompted by several conversations in a FB social media site that encouraged more international travel by minority groups to the continent of Africa.

Black Americans are least likely to have a Passport, and they are very hesitant about traveling on foreign soil. The sisters felt that by sharing these Black American expats stories, “We can debunk the myth that Black Americans don't travel, and also give more reasons to live abroad.” Some of the reasons to live abroad are for personal growth (stepping beyond one's comfort zone); to learn a new language; to meet someone different from yourself; to obtain a global perspective; and to live a slower pace of life.
