The Story
He used to be the man at Believers Bible Camp… until he found himself dragged out of his tent in the middle of the night and brought before the intimidating Mrs. Dunster, expected to answer for three separate transgressions brought forth by three separate people - in the same night. And now Shane’s going to have to fight to keep his cushy job, get the girl, and possibly - just possibly - save his soul.
"The Heathen Shane Stevens" is an original television comedy about what happens when unmitigated faith meets a complete and total lack thereof. In a postcard-perfect setting where no one ever asks any questions, he’s going to ask every single one. Over the course of the camp season, Shane and a host of other colorful characters are going to learn from each other, even if they never asked for it.
The plan is to shoot the pilot script in the Twin Cities and at a summer camp just outside of town. With your support, we will be able to:
*Rent the equipment necessary to shoot the pilot.
*Reserve locales for the shoot.
*Pay a salary to members of the cast and crew.
*Provide cast and crew with food and drink throughout the shoot.
*Create and develop costumes and props.
*Get the footage delivered and professionally edited.
So help us, dear patron of the arts, to bring Shane and his camp friends and foes to the small screen. We’ll take it to the networks and the internets and the streaming services as a finished product, rather than a script and an outline. Help us get our millennial Ferris Bueller off the page and out in front of the campfire ring.

About This Team
"The Heathen Shane Stevens" is written and will be directed by Ben Mulhern and will be produced by Maria Carrera for sureCAN productions.
Maria and Ben were united as friends nearly a decade ago through the power of rock music; her now-husband Ryan played guitar for The Alarmists while Ben was playing drums with The Debut. Over plenty of conversations at preshows and afterparties, they realized they shared a love of television and film, and she got him a gig as a production assistant on the award-winning short film "The Man with the Golden Sun" (2011). Following that summer, both got super busy - Ben finishing his teaching license and transitioning into the classroom, and Maria working nonstop as a Coordinating Producer for Food Network before eventually founding her own company, sureCAN productions. They remained in touch and talked about working together again, when the timing and project were right.
The rest, as they say...
Ben brings nearly 20 years of writing and theatre-directing experience to the project, most recently debuting the original youth musical "Casey Comet-Chaser and the Intergalactic Zoo." He has directed productions staged at venues including the Wisconsin Union Theatre, Brave Hearts Theatre in Madison, the Music Box Theatre in Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Theatre Garage and Wisconsin's Camp Anokijig.
Maria and her sureCAN outfit have created brilliant advertising spots for many companies including Shopko, Pepcid and, yes, the Minnesota Twins! In 2016, sureCAN released the web series "StevenBe," which follows eccentric Twin Cities-based yarn deity Steven Berg around knitting conventions throughout America. It’s, like... really entertaining.
