Liz is a high strung, pot smoking therapist. Andrea is a laid back and totally inept hair cutter. The moms worry that their oldest daughter has a secret boyfriend or worse yet, a pimp! They're shocked to learn that it’s really their youngest daughter who has a big secret. It's a very stressful day.

Mission Statement

This film is written&directed by a mom, and it's starring real life moms. The parents in this family comedy are 2 gay women. They're goal is to help guide their teen girls through life, while trying to stay on track themselves. It's a funny&warm female driven story.

The Story

THE RAIN PONCHO will be a 15 minute short film. It tells the story of a day in the life of a family with 2 moms raising 2 teen girls in NYC.

The moms fear the worst about their oldest daughter, thinking she has a secret lover, a pimp, etc...Their stress and anxiety level increases throughout their already challenging work day.  To find out what's really going on with their oldest daughter, they embark on some sub par Nancy Drew sleuthing. When they discover her secret, they’re shocked, and also relieved. And then when they go home that night, they learn that it’s actually their youngest daughter who’s been up to something worth hiding.
The RAIN PONCHO is about hormones and anxiety, secrecy and communication.

As Jennifer Aniston once said in some article I read, “life can be messy".

And this day, for this loving family, is no exception.

IN MY REAL LIFE...

I am the mom to 2 young boys. For me, the most amazing thing about being a parent is that every day I learn more about who my kids are. And I'm often surprised. I wouldn't have predicted that one of my kids would love to sew, and that the other one would love to act out scenes from "Home Alone".

And watching my kids evolve, reminds me that I'm still changing and growing. And that it's our family who gets to bear witness to our everchanging forms. Blah blah blah. You get it.

HOW MY OWN FAMILY STUFF RELATES TO THIS FILM...

For me, family means a loving space where people can evolve. I aim to create this space for my own family, and so does the family in THE RAIN PONCHO. They love eachother, but also step on eachother's tails, and then have to put the work in to repair.

The RAIN PONCHO moms are majorly not perfect: one of them smokes pot in between her therapy clients, and the other one is a hair cutter, who barely cuts any hair off.  And even though they stumble through parenting...there's a lot of love and a willingness to try, that makes this story relatable and fun and super funny.

PLUS, MY MOM IS DRAWING STORYBOARDS FOR THIS FILM!
