Mission Statement
The Story
Our creative process for When Skin Feels Like Glass felt the effects of COVID-19; our original premiere date at Highways Performance Space was canceled. To keep our cast safe, we suspended rehearsals from March to August. This fall we got creative with the rehearsal process to safely continue our work with the dancers. From parking lots to kitchen floors, to laptop screens, the material from WSFLG has seen it all in order to withstand the pandemic and continue its journey to final form. Now, we intend to either re-stage the live performance for a limited capacity audience with a digital viewing option or craft an experimental dance film for late Spring/early Summer 2021.
When Skin Feels Like Glass is a 30-minute dance performance that researches the loss of tangibility and human connection in contemporary society. Through an inquisitive and playful lens, this work invites us to see, feel, and question this new and unfolding reality's relationship to the body as we move towards a technologically oriented future. Some of the themes explored include distorted self-image, constructed reality, loss of physical touch, and the re-visitation of past memory.
The musical score for this work includes music made completely out of glass produced by MID-AIR! and Elliot Sellers, as well as a selection of songs by Deli Girls, Amnesia Scanner, Sega Bodega and Silver Mt. Zion.
I have always dreamed of bringing dance theatre into my life in a way where I feel more actively involved, and the dance styles and movers I admire are represented. While this project is only a small step in that direction, I hope you will take it with me. I promise I won't let you down.

About This Team
We have the pleasure of working with an intimate group of LA's most innovative dance artists including Shan Hafez, James Jimenez, Keilan Stafford, Julia Gonzales, Baby Tight Eyez, Reagan Ricossa, and Lam Nguyen. The choreographers and dancers possess an eclectic blend of dance training and techniques, ranging from backgrounds in Contemporary Ballet and Modern to Flex'n, Popping, and Krump. We enjoy taking each dancer's individual qualities and background into account when setting work on them and are so lucky to have such engaged and open dancers.
Dancer Bios:
Shan Hafez is an artist in Los Angeles who explores dance and movement in relationship with other art forms and mediums. They have appeared in Solange's "Metatronia" (2018), performed at MOCA and Hauser & Wirth in Los Angeles, and have been apart of various music videos, films, and performances. They are currently exploring identity, social norms/social change, and healing within their work. Shan has studied dance at California Institute of the Arts.
Julia Gonzalez is a 3rd year Dance BFA student at California State University, Long Beach. She is passionate about exploring the endless possibilities of pathways that we can dive deeper into movement. She is forever striving to dig deeper, more authentically- and always with love.
James Jimenez aka Animated J is a movement artist who believes "playing as a child" is the key to unlocking hidden creativity. James also has an educational background in psychology and working with children in the mental health field.
Keilan Stafford (he/him) is a current Dance BFA candidate at CSU Long Beach. There he has performed in works by faculty members including Rebecca Lemme and Keith Johnson and has worked with guest artists Micaela Taylor and Kevin Williamson. Professionally, Keilan has done projects throughout LA as a freelance artist and has trained with LACDC, No)One. ArtHouse, Gaga/People, and The Ailey School.
Sherwin “Beast” Salonga. From Carson, California. Krump Dancer. He is apart of the Tight Eyez (Creator of Krump) Family as Baby Tight Eyez. He is the creator of “The BeastCamp LLC” and is a Krump World Champion (EBS 2017) and multiple time Krumper of the Year by FCD Krump.
Lam Nguyen was born in Vietnam and moved to the United States in 2017. Raising self and cultural awareness by embracing acceptance and generating curiosity are the purposes of his dance work. Lam skillfully utilizes his 10 years of experience in Popping training in the Contemporary approach to creative emotive movement patterns by challenging himself physically with intricate tension and entanglement.
Reagan Ricossa is a recent graduate of Loyola Marymount University with a BA in Dance! Diving deep into the mental and physical capacities of dance keeps her on her toes during this unpredictable time. As she continues her dance journey, she hopes to make meaningful connections with others while being a part of powerful art.
Choreographer Bios:
Madaline "Mad Linez" Riley is an artist from Boston, MA who loves exploring the body's different states and possibilities through dance. She prioritizes honesty and creativity in her work and is very inspired by Punk and Street dance culture. She graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts from Loyola Marymount University, where she focused on the roles of movement in other art forms such as painting, drawing, and film. She has trained in Contemporary Dance and movement with Toogie Barcelo, Gaga/People, RUBBERBANDance, and Sidra Bell and has been closely mentored in Street Styles by figures such as Slim Boogie, The Ghost of New York, and Marie Poppins. She has performed for artists and brands such as Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Lady Gaga, TOKiMONSTA, Puma x Balmain, Oakley, Tik Tok and more. She is also creative director of the Street Dance collective, The Lot Original. Her goal as a performer and choreographer is to help others embrace their individuality and to tell honest and moving stories.
Brynn Bodair, a versatile performer and choreographer, hails from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She trained extensively with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Bodiography Contemporary Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Texas Theatre Ballet, and received coaching from The Kirov Ballet’s Jutec Kasamon. She performed with Bodiography Contemporary Ballet Company as a trainee. She interned for the Bill T. Jones Summer Intensive at New York Live Arts and trained with Keigwin and Company at The Juilliard School. She has performed her work as a part of The Bach Music Festival, created a full-length dance performance that focused on the humanization of legal rhetoric and set work on La Roche University dancers. As co-director of X2 Dance Collective, she worked as an artist in residency at Brockus and was commissioned by the Laban Art Gallery. Recently, the Los Angeles Dance Festival selected her experimental short film "His Party" as "Luckman's Pick of the Festival." Brynn holds a dual degree in dance and political science, as well as a minor in screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University. Currently, she also attends law school and plans to practice entertainment law.
