I studied video production and began making documentary films in the late 1990s in Boston before moving to Jackson, Wyoming in 2002. My most recent film, Far Afield: A Conservation Love Story, focuses on Bert Raynes, Jackson Hole's version of "The Lorax." With a keen intellect, sharp wit and twinkle in his eye, 91-year-old Jackson Hole News&Guide columnist Bert Raynes inspires citizens to observe and care about their wild neighbors. With Wyoming PBS as the presenting station, the film is being distributed by American Public Television. It has been picked up by 200 stations in 41 states and the District of Columbia and started airing in April 2016.
My previous award-winning documentary, The Stagecoach Bar: An American Crossroads, paints an intimate portrait of a roadhouse and crossroads that has been creating its own brand of community for more than 70 years in ways that both define and defy our visions of the Wild West. This film was also distributed by American Public Television with Wyoming PBS as the presenting station. It began airing nationwide in 2014. In 2011, I won the Wyoming Short Film Contest with Highway 22 Revisited, a comedic spin-off inspired by my work on The Stagecoach Bar: An American Crossroads.
I am currently working on Hearts of Glass, a documentary about an innovative vertical greenhouse in Jackson, Wyoming. The greenhouse aims to grow fruits and vegetables to nourish the community while also creating meaningful jobs for Jackson’s intellectually and developmentally disabled residents.
My work focuses on community, conservation, cultural and social identity, conflict resolution and multigenerational connections.
