Hey, I'm Jon!
I'm originally from Caracas, Venezuela, but was forced to leave my country due to its impending downfall over 14 years ago. Since then, I've lived in Juarez - Mexico, El Paso - Texas, New York and now Miami. Even though I started a major in Computer Science with a focus on programming, I attended a more creative calling by switch careers and eventually obtaining a double major in Digital Film and VFX/Animation from New Mexico State University.
My work in film has reflected this journey, with a constant attempt to shine a spotlight on injustice. Some of my most relevant work in the independent film arena:
"More Than One" took first place at the International Film Festival of Ciudad Juarez, revolves around the murder of a child on the border city of El Paso with Juarez and shows the different perspectives from all the so-called witnesses, showing that "truth" is unfortunately relative to teller.
"Despierta Venezuela", with over 40,000 organic views on social media, was a clip that was created as a speculative piece during the 2014 social outrage in Venezuela. Starting from the real imprisonment of the opposition Venezuela leader, Leopoldo Lopez, we created our interpretation of the events that took place behind the prison walls.
"Corazón con Ángel", recognized as "Best Documentary" at Filmgate's NOLA, follows the non-profit organization with the same name, which helps girls with down syndrome overcome fears through equine therapy.
"Downstream People", selected for the short film corner at the All Lights India Film Festival, shows a snapshot of Miami as a vibrant city that sometimes combines the best and the worse from all walks of life.
