Kelli McNeil is a Los Angeles based writer, actor and producer. A graduate of the University of Southern California’s School of Drama and The Groundlings’ writing program, McNeil has performed in multiple film, TV and stage productions, including Gus Van Sant’s Don't Worry He Won’t Get Far on Foot and SyFy’s Z Nation. McNeil began to seriously pursue writing in 2015. Her original two-act play about Mexican-American immigrants and the current political climate, Borderline, was a semi-finalist at Austin Film Festival’s inaugural playwriting competition in 2017 and a finalist in the inaugural ScreenCraft playwriting competition in 2019. The play will be produced at The Tank Theatre in Manhattan Off Broadway in 2020.

 

McNeil developed the script for her first feature film, The Baltimore School of Charm, at the UCLA Extension screenwriter’s program. It was a semi-finalist in the Screencraft Fellowship program in 2016 and a top 15% finisher in the Nichol’s Fellowship in 2017. It won 1st place at the UCLA Extension screenwriting competition in 2017 as well as 1st place at the first-ever Bechdel Film Festival. 

 

McNeil is also a published children’s book author: her first book Sleepy Toes was released in the spring of 2017 with Scholastic and has sold almost 50,000 copies worldwide. It was named one of the 15 Best Picture Books for Kindergarten by We Are Teachers and a best stocking stuffer gift from TheBump.com.

 

McNeil strives to tell authentic stories based on characters and events that have resonated with her. A native of Texas, McNeil has called Los Angeles home for most of her life. She is fluent in American Sign Language and is currently obtaining her private pilot’s license. She is repped by the Gersh Agency and Christian Armogida of Nightshade Entertainment for film and television writing and Management Montage and IDEAL Talent for voice over and acting.
