Watch Trailer
"Broken On All Sides is a compelling documentary addressing racial inequities within our criminal justice system and its devastating collateral consequences. It is an excellent resource to use in educating, motivating, and empowering your group, organization, or community on this critical issue."
- James E. Williams, Jr., Public Defender & Chair of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice
Task Force on Racial and Ethnic Bias in the Criminal Justice System
I made this movie to help correct some of the misconceptions about crime and race in America. When I began this project in 2009, I was working with a civil rights lawfirm that was suing the Philadelphia jails for severe overcrowding. It became clear to me that something was needed to educate the public about what was going on "behind the wall." Using interviews with academics, activists, politicians, and people who were in prison, the movie uses Philadelphia as an entry point to the broken U.S. justice system.
