“It’s true no one here understands now, but maybe someday they’ll catch up with you.” These were the prescient closing words of Fairport Convention’s ‘Mr Lacey’, a hymn to an irrepressible spirit who has been doing his own thing as sculptor, performer, filmmaker, shaman, robot maker and all round 'silly bugger' and so on for over sixty years. Hand built in Britain by Turner Prize winning artist Jeremy Deller and sometime accomplice Nick Abrahams, this film explores the many aspects to Lacey’s almost unbelievable career. A formative influence on everyone from David Bowie to Throbbing Gristle, 85 year old Lacey is captured at work and at play, still very actively performing rituals and creating art in a sleepy British village near Norwich.
