Director's statement

Director's Statement

As a storyteller, I'm committed to exploring the breadth of the queer experience. HOW I GOT TO THE MOON BY SUBWAY is my small contribution to a conversation I have a deep personal connection to, as I watched a loved one navigate a diagnosis that forced them to suddenly reckon with a part of their identity that they were taught to fear. It's a story not about trying to "come out," but about trying to "stay in." I also wanted to tell a story about what ALS does to not only your body but your humanity. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that often takes away a person’s ability to speak. If you were moved by the film, please consider supporting The ALS Association's Project Revoice, a non-profit initiative that aims to give more patients the opportunity to record and recreate their own unique voice for future use with AAC technology. Until there is a cure for ALS, I hope, at the very least, to see the day where no one living with ALS ever has to suffer being robbed of their voice.
