Director's statement

Director's statement

As a Pakistani, I feel Pakistanis need to make films about Pakistan not just to provide the world a lens into the country but to rejuvenate the industry by training crew members and developing new talent. The world is curious about Pakistan. It is a country frequently in the news for the wrong reasons, but there are a lot of right reasons as well. These right reasons and people need to be focused on, to create a holistic view of the country and its people, the sixth most populous country in the world. With constant state travel warnings being issued every month, I want to bring Pakistan to the world if outsiders cannot easily go to Pakistan. We envision Josh as an instrument of social change because it depicts issues of poverty and illiteracy in rural Pakistan; it illustrates the changing mood of activism among the country's youth; and it portrays the barbaric practices of justice that are still sanctioned in tribal villages.

This is part of our Female As F*ck playlist.

Reviews

It's exciting to see a new, powerful and clear voice emerge from Pakistan from such a talented young woman. JOSH needs to be seen by Western audiences so they will understand that Pakistani citizens are demanding justice and equality for all her people... - Mitchell Block
