Director's statement

Director's statement

The initial idea for Olde E came from writer, Tiara Marshall, when she heard about the story of Benjamin "Benji" Wilson Jr., an American high school basketball player from Chicago who was murdered one day before the start of his senior basketball season. I remember hearing the story of Benji. He was supposed to be the next Jordan, but was shot and killed over a verbal altercation. I never forgot that story. So Olde E became a tribute to all the Benji's out there. - Tiara Marshall. This is why Olde E represents control, identity, and resiliency. You must take control of your life, find your own identity separate from the shadow of your forefathers, and push ahead even when the odds are stacked against you. Most importantly, I needed to show the conditions many black and brown children of color face in America. People must begin to understand the insurmountable odds they face to succeed.
