The Story
Twins Zoe and Nick seem to have it all as they arrive at their glamorous 25th birthday party. But as the party winds down they can't avoid being back 15 years to their 10th birthday as their Mom wisks them away on a surprise birthday trip to Tijuana. Struggles with mental illness and addiction blur what is real and what is imagined as they relive that sweltering Tijuana afternoon from their childhood.
Although the film spans two distinct cities, Tijuana and Los Angeles, and two unique cultures, as the adventure unfolds the differences fade away and we see the connection between the events of that distant Tijuana afternoon and a mysterious present-day party in the Hollywood Hills.
"Happy Birthday or Felicidades" will take you to a magical, dangerous, and desperate place. It will raise awareness in the context of two unique cultures. It is a mesmerizing journey you will not soon forget.
La historia
Zoe y Nick parece que lo tienen todo mientras los vemos llegar a su lujosa fiesta de cumpleanos numero 25. Pero al terminar la fiesta, los gemelos no pueden evitar regresar 15 anos atras, cuando cumplían 10 años, y vemos cuando su mama los llevó a un viaje sorpresa a Tijuana para celebrar el cumpleaños. La lucha con una enfermedad mental y la adicción, vuelve confusa la realidad con la imaginacion, mientras revivimos esta aventura a través de los ojos de los niños gemelos en una sofocante tarde Tijuanense.

My screenplay for "Happy Birthday or Felicidades" is based on the novel and characters created by Spanish Author Rosa Montero. This short film tells the back-story of the two main characters, Zoe and Nick, for the in-development feature film "El Corázon del Tártaro" also based on the novel by Rosa Montero.
The film will be shot in location in Tijuana, Mexico and Los Angeles, CA. I have shot six previous projects in Tijuana that have screened in festivals around the world. I have been honored to have my films be recognized both nationally and internationally as best narrative film, best documentary, best screenplay, as well as best actor awards both nationally and internationally.
I love the experience of shooting films in Tijuana and the locations add a fascinating visual backdrop. The talented crew is independent filmmaking at it's best. Our Los Angeles crew is equally amazing. The two crews will bring two distict styles to portray and intertwine the two very distinct cities.

Me siento muy honrado y afortunado de que mis películas han sido reconocidos tanto a nivel nacional como internacional como mejor película, mejor documental, mejor guión, y premios de mejor actor.
Me encanta la experiencia de rodar en Tijuana y las ubicaciones agregan un telón de fondo visualmente fascinante. Nuestro talentoso equipo de trabajo en el cine independiente en su mejor momento y nuestro equipo de Los Ángeles es igualmente increíble. Jared's credits include award-winning short films, documentaries, music videos, andcommercial content. He has won or been nominated for best screenplay, best director, best narrative film, and best documentary at national and international film festivals. He has directed seven films that have shown in over 35 film festivals. Jared is the creative director of StephenJake Video Productions.
Vanessa Carmona - Producer
Vanessa’s credits span traditional and new media, film, andstage. Recently named one of 2016’s “Top Emerging Content Creators” by the National Association of Latino Producers
(NALIP), Vanessa studied as an undergrad at The New School in New York City and received her MFA in Playwriting from Regent’s University in London. She has produced and written award-winning branded and commercial content for tech giants, start-ups, and public sectors and has financed and optioned narrative features withwith heavy-hitting production companies. In 2017, she launched Story Camp, a production company focused onmerging new and emerging writers and directors with high level and highly creative work. She is a self-proclaimed mochiconnoisseur and can be found tracking rare native plants inthe field on a rare day off.
