"The Head" is a dark comedy about the perils of letting your art define you. Does Drew struggle because he is a young artist facing a millennial economy, or does he struggle because he's selfish, unprepared, unrealistic, impulsive, inexperienced, and awkward? Maybe it's both.

The Story
What's the Story?
When Drew's head carving gets popular on the internet, Drew thinks he has found his calling. Instead, he finds an alienating journey of self-destruction, and he has no one to blame but himself.
Why the Story?
We're living in a generation that is both chastised for its narcissism and praised for its ingenuity, especially in internet success. "The Head" aims to poke fun at both of those critiques be creating a worst-case-scenario millennial nightmare. The audience might not relate with Drew's bone-headed actions, but everyone can empathize with the temptations that led him to make them.
Why Me?
I'm not a big fan of people glamorizing or overly celebrating their generation. Laughter is more cathartic to me. I would rather look in the mirror of my own generation and laugh at all of the silliness than try to capture the struggle in any sort of earnest way. I love this character of Drew, because while he is a victim of internet fame and creative uncertainty, he also completely misreads his situation, so his misfortune is ultimately his fault. His experience is a painfully real one, but it's also kind of hilarious if you're able to see it from an outside perspective.
Why Crowdfunding?
This is a very simple movie to make and so much of it is going to be paid for by the enthusiasm of the cast and crew. However, our excitement and enthusiasm doesn't pay for food or rentals and doesn't give us an audience. By getting the support of people who are interested in seeing this film get made, we're not only able to make the film well, but we'll have a first audience when it's completed.
