The Story
This short-form dramedy follows Quinn and Nik best friends and roommates living in NYC who enjoy an open, blunt sisterly rapport with one another and a shared goal of pursuing their acting dreams in the big city. Their friendship is challenged when, after a night full of surprises on dates with their respective boyfriends (Greg and Jake), they are both faced with big life events. Dealing with the aftermath of this night triggers one of them to hold a big secret in a misguided attempt to help mend the other’s broken heart. This backfires almost immediately as the secret holder desperately requires the help of her best friend to untangle her heart and mind that are continually clashing over this secret situation.
Our story is unique in the way that it tells of a female friendship filled with a lot of love. So often we either see women who are trying to take each other down, make love, or just moving the plot along in a male driven story. This story we get to see the truth of many female friendships, that we care and love one another deeply. Through all the ups and downs and mistakes that Quinn and Nik have they are always coming at it with good intentions in their heart. Like a bro-comedy, but with women...
Nik (Nikola) -
Strong and smart. Nik's desire is to feel supported and to have all the attention to be on her as she copes with the difficult time she's having after her break up. Jake, her boyfriend of three years, is the kryptonite to her tough facade. Nik goes about trying to heal her heart in her normal ways with the help of her faithful friend, Quinn, who is always there with a misplaced joke, a hug, and copious amounts of wine that has the power to bring her out of her funk. Nik is frustrated and confused, though, as Quinn is failing to come through as her usual crutch, which leaves Nik trying to find comfort in other ways.
Quinn -
Quinn's ultimate desire is to feel loved and to feel worthy of the people who love her. This is what drives her codependency. She will kill herself caring for others but she has no idea how to care for herself. Nik is her best friend and roommate who she met in college and the two have been inseparable since. Greg is Quinn's boyfriend of 8 months who has her at war with the love she feels for him and fear of commitment. Quinn gets stuck when it seems impossible to fulfill both Nik 's and Greg's needs at the same time. Quinn ends up diving fully into a people pleasing behavior that ultimately end up pleasing no one.
Greg -
Confident but not cocky. Greg is kind and understanding but not one to be taken advantage of. He wears his emotions on his sleeve and isn’t afraid to talk about what’s on his mind. Greg definitely falls under the category of the suspiciously perfect boyfriend. He is incredibly in love with Quinn and at the ripe age of 34 ("almost 35") his biggest desire is to take their relationship to the next level and start the next chapter of their life.
Jake -
Jake is a dangerously charming, smooth talker with narcissistic tendencies. In other words, the devil himself. He has always had an easy time in relationships since he manipulates people to his will. He has been with Nik for three years and uses the comfortable feeling of such a relationship to get away with some shitty behavior. What he desires the most is to have the convenience of his intimate relationship with Nik without the burden of a full-time girlfriend.
Our mission is to make people laugh while reflecting on a time in their lives that probably felt pretty chaotic. It’s a coming of age story in a similar vein to “Girls”, cheeky humor in the vein of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend", and a messy but loving friendship in the vein of "Broad City". Also, a huge influence are all the female-led short form comedic content blazing the trail out there! And some real life stories influence this series for good messure.
Season One spans one week, with each episode being a new day and a new opportunity for our characters to make the right decisions. Tension builds day by day as the one who has been proposed to struggles to be honest with her friend (and herself) and the other tries to pull herself up after her heartbreak. The girls need to rely on their sisterly-like bond to get them through these crazy times but that bond seems to be shakier than ever. Not only is their friendship at stake but ultimately the only support system they have (each other). They need to chose to grow and learn as they transition into a new phase of their lives or drown in the unforgiving ocean of adulting.
Yellow Lines is a story near and dear to my heart as it is loosely based on real events in my life. My intention with this series is to speak to young adults who may feel like their relationship status is taking over their lives and remind them that friendship is the most important relationship of all. I hope this series can be part of the conversation of lifting each other up instead of tearing down the people we love.

About This Team
Carly is the creator of Yellow Lines. Born out of being stuck in her apartment during the COVID lockdown, she wrote these scripts for our first season. Alongside her amazing friend Kristin they shaped those scripts into what the show is today. Carly is an actor, writer, producer, director and budding editor because a girl can never have too many hats!! She enjoys stories that represent the true clash of comedy and drama in our lives and hopes to reflect that in this series. If you aren't laughing through the tears, was it even worth it? Kristin is a co-producer and actor in Yellow Lines. During the beginning of COVID, she had the pleasure to work alongside her longtime friend Carly to bring the scripts to life. Kristin is an actor and producer based out of New York City. While her first love from a young age was theatre, she developed additional loves for film, sketch comedy, and immersive experiences during her time in the city. Kristin's favorite stories are those that evoke reaction out of the audience. If you laugh, think, cry, roll your eyes, pee your pants, etc, it's a win in her book.
Megan is an actress, director, and producer based in Astoria, Queens. Megan has directed numerous theatre productions which have been staged at Teatro Latea, Manhattan Rep, the Arthur Seelen Theatre, and more. Her first short film she directed, “Hope”, received an Honorable Mention at New York Lift-Off Film Festival.
As an actress, Megan has performed at Cherry Lane, The Triad, St. Luke's Theatre, and numerous short films, including HUNTER IS F**KED, the recent recipient of Best Dark Comedy and Best Acting Duo in the Texas Short Film Festival and Austin Comedy Festival, respectively. She is honored to be a part of the "Yellow Lines" team, and to bring this widely relatable story to life with honesty, humor, and heart. More at www.meganmagee.com.
John Hoffman is a filmmaker and visual artist originally from Orange County, California. With a background in theatre, he studied acting and illustration in college, but an interest in photography led him to a find a successful photography career when he moved to New York. In 2016 he produced, directed and edited his first short film, “Absolution”, and has been expanding as a filmmaker ever since. He’s DPed over a dozen shorts, and has received awards for both Best Cinematography and Best Editing. He loves his girlfriend, but he loves his cat more. He can’t wait to get back on set with the Yellow Lines cast and crew!
