The Story

We open on a funeral (of course). Two broken people, Sophie and Sam, forge a connection. Sophie has just lost her father in a tragic accident, Sam has just gone through a *criminally* rough breakup. Both have strained parental relationships. Sophie and Sam use each other to distract themselves from their real issues.
I really wanted to push the boundaries of what a distorted worldview could drive people to do, while still maintaining the empathy of the audience. No doubt audiences will relate to the core themes of loneliness, guilt, and fighting for hope despite the lack thereof. The Internal Bleeding of Sophie and Sam will capture how it feels to grow up stagnant in a world that keeps spinning around us.
I first started writing this film while going through a difficult time, living on my own in New York, trying to navigate young adulthood, rising mental health issues, and being an ocean away from my family in Norway. Now, we’re all learning to cope with our unstable environment and isolation. We’ve gained a new understanding of what it means to be truly alone and this film reflects that (without having anything to do with the pandemic). The film closes sweetly, however, with Sophie and Sam finally receiving what they need and leaving the audience comforted and peaceful.

The inspiration for Internal Bleeding was drawn from movies like the ‘Before’ Trilogy, Miss Stevens, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Garden State. My taste in cinema leans towards hyper-realistic, character-driven stories centering on interpersonal relationships between multidimensional characters. I believe much of my own writing reflects that; I allow space for characters to develop and shed light on the subtext in their interactions. I also never write a truly good or evil character. All of my protagonists have negative qualities, and it’s rewarding to create them in a redeemable way. Internal Bleeding pushes this envelope, some of these characters have overwhelmingly negative qualities. And while this may be challenging, I’m confident by the end you’ll be rooting for their success!

Pertaining to the famous phrase "write what you know", I have worked to create characters whom under fictional circumstances feel and react in ways I can relate to. Admittedly, (while both my parents are alive and I have neither committed nor served time for any crimes -- SPOILERS!) I still relate to all of my characters as different parts of my personality and phases in my life so far.
- Before getting officially diagnosed with a mental health disorder, I unwittingly wrote a character with shockingly similar symptomatic features as me.
- Yellow, the color of the dress Sophie wears for most of the film, is the color of cowardice, caution and wealth (strongly relating to the character of Sophie).
- The diner, one of the primary locations in the film, is inspired by Pop's diner in the CW series Riverdale, which I saw while babysitting an 11-year-old.
- The film was originally intended to be shot in New Jersey (the diner capital of the US), but after a last-minute move to LA, we decided to shoot it here instead.
- Several of the longer scenes will be shot with three cameras simultaneously in order to encourage improvisation, spontaneity, and organic interactions from the actors.

With your generous contributions, we can make this film great! Your pledges will allow us to:
- Pay our cast and crew what they deserve
- Hire quality equipment to assure a higher production value
- Secure ideal shooting locations with enough time to create good scenes
- Submit to festivals
- Save Charlotte from debt

*Festival Recognition from past project, Hourglass, featured on Roku Shorts

We have our shot list, found all of our actors, and are currently looking into securing our locations and equipment rentals. We aim to shoot the film in late October, finalize it before the end of the year, and submit to festivals at the beginning of 2023.
We are very excited to introduce you to the cast and include you in behind the scenes footage which will be updated fequently via social media.
The main distribution of this film will be going to festivals, both local and worldwide. After that we intend to host a public screening and release it for public download.

COVID-19 is still running rampant. This project has been on hold for a long time due to concerns about making a film during a pandemic. However, now that pandemic life has become part of our normal routines, it's time for us to make this film. To ensure the safety of our cast and crew we will do the following:
- Follow all California COVID-19 regulations
- The cast has been limited to mainly two-person scenes at a time
- For cast members who need to act close together we are ensuring they are testing negative for COVID-19 and are vaccinated
- All crew will wear masks at all times, while cast will wear masks when not shooting
- Should someone test positive for COVID-19, all production will pause until it is safe to continue
The only way we will reach our crowdfunding goal is with your help! Please share our campaign over your social media, email, and word-of-mouth!

About This Team
As a passion project, it is extremely difficult to find creative, interesting individuals who are truly as passionate about this film as I am. Nevertheless, our team of talented actors, producers and co-directors have exceeded my wildest expectations. I am extremely exited for you to meet them and become familiar with their work. Here is a brief introduction of my wonderful cast and crew.

Originally from Norway, Charlotte Frøyland moved to Los Angeles after studying acting for four years in New York City at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute. Charlotte has a unique background, having danced professionally from the age of 9, before moving to the United States by herself at 16 to pursue acting. She has since featured in several productions on and off screen, including “Hourglass”, where she won best actress at the IndieFEST Film Awards.

Our lead actor, Brody Orofino, stars as Sam, a well-intentioned but misguided boy next door. New Yorker born and raised, Brody has always had immense passion for philosophy, psychology and behavioral science, leading to his acting career which began in the 3rd grade. Brody has studied with several studios in Long Island, Manhattan and Los Angeles, including a bachelor study in dramatic arts at the New School in Manhattan.

Daniel Mooney is an LA based actor. Originally focused in theater and musical theater in Dallas, he has moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting in Film/Television currently studying at the Chubbuck Studio, Stan Kirsch, and Larry Moss along with any books on business, cultural anthropology, or history he can grab his hands on between his sessions at the gym.

Stephen Hauser is an LA-based actor who graduated from UNLV with a bachelors degree in film. While there, he worked as a producer, production designer, writer, and actor. His passion has always been to build worlds whether it be on film, on canvas, on the page or in a character. Stephen trained as an architect for many years and was lucky enough to work in that field while transitioning into Film because he fell in love with the craft and decided to build stories in a new way.

Wade Oxford is excited to be acting again after 12 years. During his hiatus, he earned a J.D. from Loyola Law School and began a family. His return to stage was marked by a starring performance in the recent Hollywood Fringe Festival production of Mother Grace, which played to sold out audiences for the duration of its run. For his return to film, he is privileged to be able to work with the incredibly talented Charlotte Frøyland on “The Internal Bleeding of Sophie and Sam.”

Megumi Morino is originally from Japan and is now based in LA. While in Japan, she studied at the Bungakuza Theater Institute. She has acted in several films, theater productions, commercials, and was also a radio DJ. Megumi is happy and excited to fulfill her dream of living and acting in LA.

Darius is a filmmaker whose passion and drive has lead to the self-financing and creation of multiple short films, three of which have been in collaboration with Charlotte (“The Moth,” “Hourglass,” and “A Nightmare of a Night”). He is no stranger to the hard work and dedication required to make a short film a reality, especially on a very tight budget.
